Baltimore Green Justice Workers Cooperative (BGJWC) stands with the National Council of Nonprofits and remains steadfast to the commitment for truth and justice. While BGJWC does not endorse political candidates or parties, we actively challenge misinformation and false narratives that threaten democracy, environmental justice and community well-being.

This Administration and its appointed leaders, like Elon Musk, repeatedly promote deceptive narratives designed to advance anti-democratic policies that serve corporate interests at the expense of everyday people, particularly those from historically marginalized and underserved communities. Their latest attempt is a Presidential Memo alleging an "anti-democratic takeover" orchestrated by organizations like the National Council of Nonprofits, which have rightfully challenged this Administration’s reckless and unlawful actions in court. This most recent Presidential Memo is not only promoting a false narrative, but it is a direct attack on the foundations of democracy that are embedded in the U.S. Constitution. The right of nonprofits - or anyone person or entity - in the United States to challenge Executive overreach through the Judicial System is not an example of an "anti-democratic takeover." It is an example of a fundamental exercise of democracy that we are afforded as American citizens.

The U.S. Constitution enshrines a system of checks and balances to prevent unchecked power, ensuring that all branches of government remain accountable to the people of the United States. When organizations like the National Council of Nonprofits pursue legal action against governmental overreach, they are upholding the very principles that safeguard democracy in the United States.

BGJWC stands in solidarity with all organizations and public officials who work to protect the rights of communities, resist misinformation, and defend democratic principles against corporate and political manipulation. We must always remember that demanding accountability from our government is not only lawful but essential to maintaining a balanced and fair system. The right to challenge governmental decisions through legal channels is a testament to the strength of our democracy—a system designed to prevent the concentration of power and to safeguard the rule of law.

Contact your U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators to ask them to,

  1. Protect Federal Agencies & Nonprofits: Protect the essential and often lifesaving work of federal agencies nonprofit organizations throughout the country.

  2. Expose False Narratives: We oppose any distortions that misrepresent the essential checks and balances that define our constitutional democracy.

  3. Defend Democratic Principles: The judicial process is a vital tool for holding our government accountable, not a subversive act against democratic values.

Together, let's continue to champion transparency, accountability and the enduring strength of our nation's democratic principles.

TAKE ACTION!

(1) Call (410) 396-4900 to oppose the decision by Mayor Brandon Scott and his Executive Administration to transfer control of the City's conduit system to BGE or to any other third party.  Suggest instead that Mayor Scott and his Executive Administration create a task force of stakeholders from all sectors in Baltimore City to work with the consultant retained by his Administration to come up with a better way to resolve the City's conduit system problem that is in the best interest of Baltimore residents, not in the interest of a business conglomerate like BGE.

(2) Email the Board  of Estimates at boe.clerk@baltimorecity.gov requesting that the Board of Estimates affirms the vote of the majority of Baltimore residents, by rejecting the approval request by Mayor Scott and his Executive Administration to transfer control of the City's conduit system to BGE.
